Issue: The rooftop parking area of a prominent car dealership was experiencing severe water leakage. Rainwater was seeping through the roof deck, damaging vehicles displayed in the upper-level showroom below. This posed a threat to valuable inventory and required urgent, durable intervention that could also handle vehicle loads.
Overview:
Target Roofing & Waterproofing was commissioned to resolve the water intrusion problem on a rooftop that also functioned as a vehicle parking area. The challenge: deliver a long-lasting waterproofing system that could also support heavy, continuous vehicular traffic without compromising performance.
Problem Diagnosis
A thorough inspection revealed that the existing surface was inadequately sealed and not designed to manage the constant vehicle load, which contributed to microfractures and water ingress. Expansion joints were also deteriorating, reducing their ability to accommodate structural movement—further worsening the leaks.
Solution Implementation:
Target Roofing implemented a double-layer torch-on waterproofing system designed specifically for load-bearing surfaces. This was followed by the application of a 70mm concrete screed, which evenly distributed the pressure from parked vehicles and prevented surface cracking. Expansion joints were carefully addressed and sealed using flexible, high-performance joint systems to allow movement while maintaining waterproof integrity.
Outcome:
The new system successfully eliminated water ingress into the showroom below and restored full use of the parking deck. The dealership can now safely showcase and protect its vehicles, with the peace of mind that the waterproofing system is both structurally sound and built to endure heavy daily loads.
